Scars of Independence

A disputed region on the coast of the Black Sea was once a seaside resort. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the civil war, the subtropical oasis disappeared once and for all. The cost was high — the geopolitical isolation and international economic embargo that left the disputed territory in ruins. The fight for independence has turned into a fight for international recognition here, that still remains unnoticed. And in the midst of it all, life goes on.

‘’In Scars of Independence multimedia, Olga Ingurazova expands individual stories. It became a collective tale. The sound flowing through the images – street noises, machine guns, memories - is the voice of a hole population who live in a state of limbo.’’ —— FOTOGRAFIA, Festival internazionale di Roma.
